Getting to Labor Day weekend is always the first milestone in a new school year, and we’re pairing that with our first home football game! It’s been a great week at MHPS, and we’ve had a great start to the year. I’m thankful for all the hard work of our teachers and staff to make the past two and a half weeks positive for students. I’m also grateful to the parents and students for their support and patience.
The data we use for our mask status shows 54 new known cases per 10,000 residents in a 14-day window. If the data (which comes out on Thursday afternoons) next week shows that we’re at 49 or fewer cases, we will move into the moderate risk (orange) category. If that happens, masks will be recommended but no longer required. I appreciate everyone’s cooperation and help to get us here. When our mask status does change, we will notify you right away.
I will be having a Walk-In Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on September 8. I have had these events periodically over the past several years. I want your feedback on the start of the school year, including the ways we handled the COVID-19 situation well and the ways we could improve moving forward. The Board of Education will also be joining me from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. to hear from the public on any issues -- including our mask resolution.
This week we had 15 positive cases of COVID-19 within the district that resulted in 9 family probable close contacts and 3 additional probable close contacts.
Don’t forget we’re not in session Monday. I hope you enjoy the holiday weekend. I can’t wait to see many of you at Bomber Stadium tonight!
